- The Story behind The M–BIus Ring
For many years bisexuality has been expressed using different kinds of symbols. On the web and other places you will be able to find the following bi-related logos: first the most common one, which displays certain mixes of the Venus and Mars symbols, sometimes two or three of them intertwined or intersecting eachother. Another one is a logo consisting of two triangles: a light blue triangle overlapping a pink one, thus resulting in a purple triangle
To Joli(e) (=the creator of the M–BIus logo) it didn't seem right to keep on separating the notion of 'being' Venus or Mars, or light blue or pink for that matter, where purple is only a compromise. It seemed more logical - when thinking of the wide variety of bisexual lifestyles - as if there was no such thing as BIsexuality, but instead, a universal SEXUALITY
All these aspects are part of the same world, so why not unify them in one shape? The M–BIus band is a shape originating from mathematics; it is nothing more but a ribbon that has its two ends turned 180 degrees with regard to one another. An ordinary ribbon that has its both ends connected, has the characteristic one can only touch one side at a time when going around. The special thing about a M–BIus band is that it is infinitive; it has a neverending surface
Another nice thing, but of minor importance, is that the word M–BIus has the word 'bi' in it. The infinity and the metaphor possibility to go through all stages of sexual identity make the M–BIus ring a typically bisexual form of imigary, yet it also embraces transgenderism, pansexuality, queerness and the notion of a dynamic sexual identity
